The Latvian Parliament (Saeima) on October 14 accepted for consideration Bill No. 1124, which proposes amendments to the VAT Law introducing reduced VAT rates for certain goods and services.

Key provisions include:

l5 percent VAT rate: Applies to the supply of books and mass media publications, including subscription fees, regardless of format—printed or digital—subject to specific conditions.

l12 percent VAT rate: Applies to selected food products, including fresh fruits, berries, vegetables, bread, milk, poultry, and eggs, during the period from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.

The proposed amendments would enter into force on January 1, 2026.
